Overview
The only beach in Kerala that received international Blue Flag certification was Kappad Beach in the Kozhikode district. It is a serene beach away from the bustle of the city and only comes to life when tourists visit or when fishermen launch their boats into the sea or dry some of their catch. Freshwater or marine resources that meet strict international requirements for sustainability, safety, cleanliness, and environmental friendliness are tagged.
History of Kappad Beach
This historic coastline, also called the Kappakadavu coastline, is where Vasco da Gama is credited with landing in India for the first time on May 27, 1498. A stroll around the area gives one an understanding of its historical significance. The spice route thrived through the beach.
Topography of Kappad Beach
Tourists from the state and beyond have been drawn to the area by its topography, the little rock formations, and the view of the coconut trees that line the shore. Here, a temple believed to be more than 800 years old is situated atop a rocky headland that rises into the sea. There are a few shacks close to the beach, and they serve a great selection of regional foods and drinks.

Another stunning feature of Kappad is its pristine, uninhabited backwaters. Tourists can even ride the Korappuzha River along the backwaters to the shore in order to soak in the natural beauty and local life.
With something fresh to offer every visitor, Kappad Beach is a captivating destination for beachgoers, thrill-seekers, and couples.
