Overview
Located on both banks of the Karapuzha River and in Kerala’s booming Wayanad District, Karapuzha Dam is one of the biggest earth dams in India. The cascading water, flooded hills, picturesque surroundings, and verdant islets render this an ideal location for avian species and an enchanting destination for travelers.
The water is 158 feet deep here, and it is best to visit the dam during the day because visibility is poor at first sight. This man-made wonder is a wonderful spot to go to unwind and rest in the middle of nature with its lush green surroundings and nearby birds.
For irrigation purposes, the construction of the Karapuzha Dam was completed in 2004 after starting in 1977. Nonetheless, the tourism bureau improved the region surrounding the dam by building an aquarium and installing boating and canoeing facilities here. In the countryside, one can go on walks through nature and capture photos of the various, lovely birds that fly through. When the water at Karapuzha Dam fills up to the brim during monsoon season, it creates an incredible sight. The dam is definitely worth a visit and is open all year round.
