The hillock transforms into a glitzy golden field with knee-high grass as summer draws near. When autumn arrives, the area is covered in leaves that turn the field a fiery scarlet. Madayipara, adorned with over 30 species of dense grass and 300 varieties of blooming plants, is nothing short of a nature lover’s paradise. This diverse ecosystem attracts 150 species of beautiful butterflies, including the Atlas butterfly, the largest butterfly in the world, that enchants you with their intricate patterns and vibrant colors. Madayipara is a birder’s paradise with over 100 species of migratory and endemic birds calling this hill station home.

In Pazhayagandi, Madayipara is one of those tourist destinations that is enjoyable throughout the year. This amazing land’s ability to change color in response to the seasons is a breathtaking phenomenon that should be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

Post-monsoon is the best time to visit Madayipara if you want to see the fields of this hillock covered in a variety of cool colors and take a picture against this stunning backdrop. The monsoons begin at the end of June and last through the end of September. The 700 acres are covered in lush, dense greenery as the fairy godmother, disguised as rain, arrives. These small plants begin to flower after November, and within no time, the entire field is mostly a giant blanket of white and blue flowers. Truly an astounding sight.

Around February, when autumn begins to arrive, the field begins to change color and takes on a vibrant red hue. Even though the flowers are starting to fade and the trees are losing their autumn foliage, this is still an incredibly beautiful sight. The entire hillock is covered in crimson and gold hues, which never cease to astound passersby.

April marks the beginning of summer when the hillock transforms into a place with long, golden grass akin to what you see in films. It is truly a sight for sore eyes as the whole hay field glistens in the sun.

How To Reach Madayipara 

Madayipara is conveniently located along National Highway 66 (NH 66), which links the northern end of Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram with the southern end of Goa and Mumbai. It is tucked away between Taliparamba (15 km) and Kannur (26 km).

The shortest path from Kannur to Pappinisseri, Keecheri, Irinave, Kannapuram, Pazhayangadi, and Madayipara is as follows. The shortest route if you’re driving from Taliparamba is Taliparamba – Kuppam – Narikode – Ezhome – Pazhayangadi – Madayipara. For just INR 20 per ticket, you can conveniently take a bus from Maday Bus Stop that will take you directly to Madayipara.
