Overview
Thirunelli Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu. It is situated in Kerala’s Wayanad district, surrounded by picturesque hills and lush green forests. Legend of the Thirunelly Temple
The Thirunelly Temple has an intriguing legend. Lord Brahma is said to have discovered these stunning hills while traveling around the world. They are now referred to as the Brahmagiri Hills. He was so taken with the beauty of this place that he decided to descend. He saw an idol resting on a gooseberry tree. He recognized the idol as that of Lord Vishnu and made efforts to install it there. On Lord Brahma’s request, Lord Vishnu ensured the origin of the Papanashini stream, whose waters could wash away all sins.
